Gesar Mukpo is a filmmaker who lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is the son of the great Tibetan Buddhist teacher, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and his British wife. As he gathers impressions from others, Gesar reveals his own poignant story of living in the West with this unique label and legacy — endlessly scrutinized as someone supposed to be special and monumental. What does it mean to carry on a role designed for an old world when you’re living in a completely new one? How will Gesar and other Western tulkus fulfill their destiny?

Tulku / Gesar MukpoThree years old when he Gesar Mukpo as one of the first Westerners was recognized as a Tulku – the current incarnation of a Buddhist master. He has his whole life trying to figure out what that really means.

Tibetan teachers including Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche Gesar ‘s father , came from the 60s to the West. In the mid- ’70s they began to recognize as Western children tulkus . A system that 800 years had provided for power and spiritual authority in Tibetan society was suddenly transplanted to a totally different culture . Individual tulkus Gesar as there were the ones to suffer .

In this extremely personal documentary Gesar on the road to meet other tulkus . Young people struggling to modern culture in which they were born and the old Tibetan culture from which they were reborn together. While his travels through Canada, the United States, India and Nepal he met four other tulkus that barrel trying to get at the meaning of this profound dilemma .
