藏历新年前一天上街去 Shopping Day for Monks and Eating Day For Me Before The Losar

今天喇嘛们忙着上街买过年要用的供品等物。他们办事,我跟上,好好大吃了一顿。
Today is the last day before Tibetan New Year. Lamas needed to shop for new year preparation so I tagged along for a food trip while they were working.

德拉敦的市集有家咖啡店,每次经过都想说有机会要去试试,因为他们卖的是我最喜欢的Dosa,有点像煎饼果子,外面是脆脆的薄饼,里面一般包着玛沙拉香料的洋芋泥和蔬菜。这家店没让我失望,可惜他们只有两种可选,传统的或洋葱的。另一家比较高级的Kumar Vegetarian Restaurant的种类比较多,有包Paneer 起司的,但是做成三角形的,吃起来感觉没有传统的过瘾。
There is this coffee shop at the Dehra Dun bazaar which I always want to try because they are selling one of my favorite Indian food – dosa. Indeed they are very good – good dosa and good value for money. The lassi was also good. The only other place I found in Dehra Dun for dosa is Kumar Vegetarian Restaurant, where they offer more variety e.g., with panner, but I do not like that triangular shape and still prefer the traditional tube wrap.

印度的木瓜比人头还大两倍,实在很想看它们是如何挂在树上的。还有黑紫色的萝卜。
Unlike the papayas in Taiwan, Indian papayas can be as big as two human heads. I would really love to see how they hang on the trees. The deep purple radish also seems exotic.

中午在PremNagar的路边小店吃饭,第一次来是吃Tandori Chiken,今天发现他们的咖喱鸡更讚。
Another “finally”today is that I finally got a chance to go back to Prem Nagar eatery. Two years ago after a long train ride without any food, this was the only place open late at night for a quick bite. Probably because I was hungry, I formed an impression that they got the best naan I ever tasted. Today, their naan was not as impressive as before, but their chicken curry was superb!

然后逛到甜点店里买paneer起司,这是我平常不吃肉的主食,所以想在过年期间备一点,试著自己煮煮看。甜点店里除了Jelabee 以外,其它的种类倒是没有引起我太多的兴趣。除了两个超大的油炸泡芙类的东西,不过这个只能坐在里面吃。
Then we went to the sweet shop to buy paneer (cheese), which is like my main protein source since usually I do not take meet in the monastery. Hopefully I get a chance to try cooking paneer myself in the next few days.

回到庙里,各拉章都在忙着陈列供品和明天有访客来的摆设。外面买的驴耳朵麻花有一肘+一掌长,昨天他们又自己炸了一种看起来难度很高的圆饼型麻花。听说明早六点开始就会有人来跟仁波切拜年,不知道这个放在会客室的麻花,会不会真的有人拿来吃。喇嘛们放水果的摆盘也很让我赞叹。
After back to the monastery, most people were busy setting up offerings and decoration for Losar. A new round-shape khapsay was made and this type is very delicious. The artistic display that  monks can come up with simple materials continues to amaze me from time to time.
